Altarian Dynasty

The Dynasty represents all those who can trace their lineage back to the Throne of Alta - one of the founding civilisations of the Galactic Cooperation and one steeped in tradition. Though the Altarian civilisation spans many stars, the Throne itself is a seat of power of this rare surviving monarchy. The sheer age of Alta as a civilisation, and its permissive yet rigidly-defined rules about how inheritance passes through partnership and adoption, means that those who can with some legitimacy claim to be descended from royalty - Altarian Dynasts - number in the hundreds of thousands across the entire Cooperation. Though the likelihood of ever ascending to the Throne (or even the top one hundred in line for succession) is slim for most Dynasts, position in the line of succession is a pass to privilege and luxury, often paired with political power. Proving and maintaining one's legitimate order in the Dynasty is therefore highly important to any who seek this power, as is establishing and maintaining friendships or alliances with other Dynasts.

Dynasts will be meticulous about preserving the correctness of their order from the Throne. Should someone higher up enter a new partnership or bring a child into the family, a Dynast's ranked order will worsen (the number will increase). Should someone higher up leave the family or pass away, a Dynast's ranked order will improve (the number will decrease). Dynasts will be rigorous in confirming news about their position, and will proudly proclaim their order as a badge of honour.

Above all things, Dynasts value their proof of legitimacy: the evidence which proves their place in the vast Altarian Dynasty. Since birth certification can easily be forged, proof of legitimacy will generally take the form of an heirloom - something that can be traced far enough back through the Dynasty to prove connection to an undeniable successor (usually someone with triple digit succession order), or even to the Altarian Throne itself. Consequently, tampering with, theft of, and blackmail around legitimacy proof is a highly illegal and thus highly profitable affair.

Example expressions of Dynastic affiliation:

  • X. Burning Sky, 1118th in line would perhaps introduce themselves as “X. Burning Sky, 1118”
  • Mx. Foggiest Day, unsure of their exact position beyond being greater than 4800 might introduce themselves as “49th Century Foggiest Day”, using their position as their title

The current incumbent of the Throne of Alta is the most glorious Prime Elevated Rose. She and her court are rarely seen outside of the Altarian core worlds, but her dignity and charm are spoken of throughout the Dynasty.

Altarian Dynasts contains the known Dynastic Order in the stranded Keter Borderlands.
